Quinta do Nicho

About Quinta do Nicho

Quinta do Nicho is a small, independent olive farm nestled in the hills of Beira Baixa, Portugal. With around 700 trees spaced across traditional, wide-set land, we’ve chosen a slower path — one that honours the rhythm of the seasons and the quiet integrity of the soil.

The name is pronounced "KEEN-tah doo NEE-shoo” and loosely means “Niche Farm” in Portuguese — a reflection of the small, special place we've carved out here among the olive trees.

The bird in our logo is an Iberian magpie — a soft-coloured bird with striking blue wings and tail, native to this part of the world. They live in our olive grove year-round, often in chattering family groups, and they remind us daily of the beauty of belonging, kinship, and staying close to home.

The farm is run by Victor (from Romania) and Sarah (from England), a couple drawn together by a shared desire to live more simply, more meaningfully, and more in tune with the land. We came to Portugal not to chase profit, but to build a life rooted in care, craft, and connection.

Our grove is certified organic. We never use pesticides or chemical fertilisers, and every part of the process — from pruning to harvest — is done by hand. In October and November, we pick the olives ourselves using a varejador, then press them cold within 48 hours. We’re always first in the day at the mill, and our oil is left unfiltered for maximum flavour and authenticity.

But olives are just one part of life here. Our smallholding is also home to chickens, sheep, and goats; a vegetable patch, herbs, and vines; and groves of cork oaks and eucalyptus. The cork is harvested every eight years. The wood fuels our home. Everything we grow or raise is done with care — for the land, for the animals, and for the future.

We believe in slow farming, honest work, and living gently. What we produce isn’t just food — it’s a way of life. Every bottle of oil, every tree sponsored, is part of this ongoing story of renewal, respect, and return.

If you choose to support us — whether by buying our oil or sponsoring a tree — you’re not just making a purchase. You’re becoming part of something small, real, and rooted.
